To learn more about Alaska's homeschool laws you can explore Alaska’s Education Law and Alaska State .

In Alaska, children between the ages of 7 and 16 must attend public school unless an academic education can be provided that is comparable to that provided by local public schools.

According to Alaska Stat. §14.30.010, there are four different homeschooling options in Alaska:

  1. Homeschooling in the child’s home by a parent or legal guardian
  2. Homeschool with a private tutor in which the teachers are certificated according to Alaska Stat. § 14.20.020
  3. Homeschooling through a school board-approved correspondence school.
  4. Homeschooling as part of a religious or other private school in compliance with Alaska Stat. § 14.45.100

Homeschooled students do have the right to participate in school sports and interscholastic activities in their public schools, according to Alaska Stat. §14.30.365.

Homeschool Requirements

Alaska is a no notice state which makes homeschooling easy.

Even though the state does not require you keep further records, you may want to do some personal record keeping in event that you would need to show some form of education proof to the state or other legal entities. This includes:

    1. Record attendance
    2. Track text and workbooks used.
    3. Keep student work samples.
    4. Keep records of correspondence with school officials.
    5. Keep portfolios and test results.

Modify™ has made keeping these records convenient and easy.

Graduation requirements

Although Alaska has no formal graduation requirements, here is a general idea of what Alaska public schools require in order to give parents an idea of what they might want their child to complete. Alaska public schools require a minimum of 22.5 credits to graduate. Credit include:
